Policy Set Up Tip # 1

Get your SAIC Code Correct

A SAIC code is a key part of your Workers Compensation Insurance program. There are over 500 SAIC codes to match your business activity. Your premium depends on the right SAIC code and the business activity for your business. You need to have the right SAIC code to avoid overpaying on your Premiums. A specialist like Employers Comp can help you pay the correct SAIC code for your business.

Policy Set Up Tip #2

Number of Deemed Workers

A deemed worker is a person who is considered a worker for workers compensation purposes. In South Australia Workers Compensation, this group includes Working Directors, employees, apprentices, trainees, and some independent contractors. You should remember that the numbers you provide for the number of workers and wages paid to deemed workers when you request a quick quote are only estimates.

ReturnToWork SA South Australia Definitions

What is a Deemed Worker?

It’s Complicated!

A Deemed Worker is an individual who is “deemed to be a worker” for Workers Compensation purposes. This will include Full-Time, Part-Time and Casuals employees in your business. This will include some Directors in your business, and in some situation's Independent Contractors. When renewing your ReturnToWork SA Policy it is the obligation of the employer to include all relevant Deemed Worker remuneration a business has paid when completing your Employers Renumeration Return. Using a specialist like Employers Comp will assist you in ensuring you declaring your Wages accurately and on time to ensure you comply with your Workers Compensation Insurance obligations.

Is a Working Director a Deemed Worker?

It's still complicated!

You may need to have a ReturnToWork SA Injury Insurance Policy if you are a Sole Operator and you use an Australian Business Number (ABN) and an Australian Company Number (ACN), and you pay yourself more than $14,920 in wages or dividends. This policy can help you if you get injured or sick because of your work. Contact us for a quote and our team will tell you if you can get this policy.

What is an Employer Remuneration Return?

Your legal responsibility as a Policy Holder.

One of your obligations as an employer and policy holder is to report how much Rateable Renumeration you have paid to your workers each year, through an Employer Remuneration Return. This is a formal government submission. This step is important because it helps ReturnToWork SA ensure you pay an Injury Insurance premium that's both fair and accurate for your business, making sure you are paying the appropriate amount of premium based on your actual wages. It's a record keeping requirement that all Policy Holders have to provide. Employers Comp takes this hassle away so you can focus on your business.
